Hey - I am Katy, a self taught embroidery artist living and working in Edinburgh, Scotland. I design and hand embroider all my products, from pet portraits to wedding napkins, hoop art, customised clothing and everything in between.
I picked up my first embroidery hoop in 2015 and haven’t looked back since. My embroidery pieces are individually designed from sketches and hand stitched onto a variety of materials, from silk and velvet to linen. Without any formal training I tend to stitch as I would paint or draw, so no two pieces are ever the same.
Hand embroidery is a slow, methodical art which cannot be rushed. I love that my embroidery pieces are a result of many, many hours sat behind a hoop, adding stitch by stitch to a piece and watching it come to life in front of my hands. In an age of fast fashion, over stimulation and cheap, throw away products it feels great to be creating one off pieces to be cherished for life.
I specialise in pet portraits and custom embroidered clothing, but will turn my hand to most embroidery challenges or commission requests. I love working with recycled fabrics and second hand clothing to create my pieces as I hate seeing material going to waste, or worse, landfill! I have collaborated with several brands over the past year including Kestin, Rosie Sugden Cashmere, Amarinta Campbell, Gig&Olive and more.
Please feel free to check out my instagram for more info about my work and don’t hesitate to get in touch with any special requests or questions.
